Car Left For Repairs Burns On Roadway
Early Monday sheriff’s deputies were called to a Summertown roadway after a car that had been dropped off for repair work was found burning there.
Sheriff’s department reports show that deputies were called to an area near 47 Moore Road at 1:19 a.m. regarding a car fire. They found a white Honda Accord fully engulfed in flames. The hood had been raised and was supported by a bar.
Members of the Summertown Fire Department responded to extinguish the flames.
Deputies were able to use the vehicle identification number to track down the owner. They went to the owner’s Eagle Haven Drive home and she informed them that her son had been using the car. A marine, she said he was at Camp Lejeune at that time.
The victim informed deputies that she had dropped the car off at a Summertown garage for repairs due to engine trouble. She said she had dropped off the vehicle on Saturday.
The garage owner had instructed her to leave the key inside the vehicle. He told her that he would put the car inside the shop that evening.
The car, valued at $7,000, was deemed a total loss.
